Critique Request: www.anigroupinc.com - 8/29/2005 14:22:00
Hello. I would greatly appreciate any and all feedback on my business site. I'm mainly looking for functionality critiques, but general appearance critiques are also welcome. I'm especially interested in how the site functions on other browsers besides IE6. Also, I'm most interested in the Application page, which can be accessed through the Mystery Shoppers page. If you fill out the application but don't actually want to be put in my database, please enter "test" in the first and last name fields. Thank you in advance, your help is greatly appreciated. Hi It looks pretty much the same in FF for windows and IE6. In Opera 7 for windows the text is centred for some reason. In FF and Safari on the Mac I've got horizontal scrollbars which you want to avoid if possible although it's fine on the Services page. In FF for windows with adblock (which most people use with FF) there's an ugly adblock label distorting that "click here for inquiry" animation. I think that it's probably not necessary to have it animated anyway - but either way you might want to have it right-aligned as it looks a little odd in the middle. If it's right aligned then the adblock things aren't imposing themselves on the text so much. I'd do away with the hit counter - it doesn't look professional. I'd also left-align that Geotrust thing as it looks a bit lost in the middle of the page. I'd also make the relevant nav button be "on" when you're on the page as it's a bit confusing on the Services page - the first thing section is about Mystery Shoppers and I thought I'd got to the wrong page! On the Mystery Shopper Service Definition page the bottom bit is messed up on FF and Opera (so probably Safari although I didn't check). It's actually not possible to get through to the form. On your form you might want to look at putting <label> tags on the input labels to make sure it's accessible to everyone - you don't want to be seen to exclude certain groups by making the form un-usable. Finally (sorry!) The ANI writing in the banner needs redoing it just isn't nearly slick enough - especially next to the molded metal looking graphic thing. Phew - sorry that was quite a list.

I didn't think that the writing in the banner graphic was especially that bad personally. Here's a couple of points I'd add: The page width is too wide. Visitors on anything less that 1152px monitor setting (around 90+% at a guess) will have to constantly side-scroll to read them! Why do 'enquires' and 'contact us' lead to two separate pages? Pages are a little too plain IMO. Nav graphics need sharpening. As for search engine optimisation - you'll need to utilise page titles and numerous other things a lot more. Hope these all help All the best

Oh yes, it all helps. I have a hard time realizing that not everybody has a big hi-rez monitor like I do. I've actually been meaning to thin out my site a bit. Any way you could expound on the "Nav graphics need sharpening" comment? Also, optimization... what's wrong with the titles I have? I'm really just starting to learn about the whole optimization thing.

Re the page 'titles' - I mean the <title>etc etc.</title> in the <head></head> part of the HTML - at present you have the same words on each page. Ideally, you need to treat each page of your site as a doorway into the the site and therefore aim at a different set of key words/phrases on each page. The title tag is very important but so are many other things too - best do a search on this forum or Google for "how to optimise web pages for engines" Re the button graphics - just personal opinion but I think the fuzzy grey outer edge looks poor - it would be okay if it was transitioning into the colour of the page background but on the white it doesn't look smart to me.
