ACCESS Coding no idea where to start.... - 8/31/2005 6:53:04
Hi,

This forum has the most comprehensive pages to find most things about Frontpage which is great but I want to dip my toe in the water and get some direction...

I have created a Frontpage Website and got myself a Windows server host running FP / ODBC and ASP.NET. Idea behind website is private homesales... It has MYSQL running as the database on it but I do have MS ACCESS.

I need to build a database to control all the house criteria (no. beds/baths price etc) and display on my website searchable by dropdowns etc.

My problem is ive done the easy bit...(Frontpage website construction) but now the hard bit I have no idea where to start to link a DB. I can create the database in access easily enough and I GUESS that I just copy it over to my server if I want to use the Acces DB, but running queries is a night mare and in the end they should be run from the website anyway. It appears I will probably need to have some sort of SQL/VB programming done to the site but I am a complete beginner.

After all that...apart from this great forum is there any good books/sites that I can look at that can take me through step by step how I do simple queries on ACCESS or should I use the MYSQL DB.

For instance, I want users to input a postcode into my website which checks that I cover their area and displays a message back to them. Infact it must be the easiest thing to do because its two tables 1 with postcodes and 1 with the response .. and basically states YES I do and NO I dont...

Thanks to whoever replies ..for just replying :)

It sounds like you have everything you need to get started!
With frontpage, it has something called the "DRW" (insert > database > results) that enables you to display the results of an access database.
Check out www.outfront.net/spooky for more detail on that and see where you need to go to from there?
