Development of CSS within FP2003 - 9/2/2005 0:07:29
Hi
does anyone wholly use FP 2003 to develop their CSS for their site??

My next question then is - how??

I know their are lots of good 3rd party CSS editors, but I think I'd like to try doing it wholly from within FP2003 - if it's not going to send me completely bonkers.

Paul

Hi Paul, the below were great when I first started out, but I eventually found they drove me a little crazy.

On a blank page, I sometimes used the >Format >Style to modify the styles in the list. This creates embedded CSS so I then copied that into my external style sheet and modified it further. You can click here to see a bit about this.

Another way is to create a style sheet via >File >New >More page templates >Style Sheets - when the style sheet shows on your screen you can go to >Format >Style and change the styles that are there. More info here.

I've tried a couple of the CSS editors but actually prefer doing the style sheet from scratch. Generally edit it directly in FP so I'm not jumping in and out of Notepad. Mind you, I am a very lazy CSSer - tend to just rework previous style sheets in use and / or go to CSS sites and copy and paste the code at those and play with it a little.

This is probably not much help to you at all though - perhaps someone else will know some neat tricks with CSS and FP :)

Thanks Sally
that's pretty much how i do it now. But I've been learning Dreamweaver, and trying to do In FP waht Dreamweaver can do.

Ah - I went through that as well... I like Dreamweaver, but must be one of the few people on earth who actually prefer working in FP :)

Roma is a nice place - will be going through there next month :)

I occasionally use FP simply because of the preview however, I don't let FP generate any of the css, going there is disaster in the making.

I hand code it, have the html and css pages open together. If the html page is on preview then as I change the css and save it the preview changes as I watch.

I personally think DW is far too complicated and if given the choice will use notepad instead.

The other thing I use is StyleMaster. The latest version is pretty cool.
