Should we fall over ourselves thanking MS for doing this? No. They're chiefly talking about (mostly) supporting CSS2 which was released in 1998 - 2 years before IE6 - this isn't new stuff. Most of the other Browser manufacturers are working towards CSS3 (most already partially support it). Edit: One thing though - I find it very encouraging that someone at MS is finally thinking about what might happen if they didn't get rid of the * selector in IE7 while sorting out most of the other stuff. I did read in a net mag only a couple of days ago though that IE7 wouldn't fully support CSS2. As Tailslide says, I don't think we should be jumping up and down with joy and thanking M$ because they finally decided to fix the problems 7 years after CSS2 was released. As they have stated that IE7 will not work with anything older than XP, those of us on w2K (which I prefer to the "clunky" feel of XP)will never use it. Historical evidence shows that a fair sized rump of the potential users will be slow to change anyway, and as Opera and FF are both gaining ground (albeit slowly) I think the take up will be a lot less than for previous new versions. Anyway it's too little too late AFAIC they could have got up to speed years ago but they didn't because of their cunning plan to force everyone to use their browser with it's proprietory code and quirky way of misinterpreting things. If they make these changes it is not for alturistic reasons it's because they know that they have been found out and they are trying to mitigate the damage that they see coming from the dramatic rise of Firefox. _____________________________ I have a higher and grander standard of principle than George Washington.
