Universal4 -> Double your speed (9/6/2005 23:15:33)

I have actually effectively doubled my speed in some tests using a server in between my workstation and the router. Cable connection, with a linksys router, DHCP turned off. I put a Win2k server between and set up nat on the server. 2 cards in server. The cards in the server have fixed IP's, and one nats to the other, both in the same class. My tests showed and effective 90% + increase in speed tests. I have not performed this test in a while, was a few months ago and I have been meaning to try it again since moving recently. I have discussed this situation with a few other network engineers, and the only thing that we have been able to come up with is that the "routed protocol" changed the packet headers enough to get the increase in speed. I have not done extensive testing with this just simple speed tests at places such as dslreports. I figured this might fuel a discussion...(ok a few of you will prolly call me a few odd names too) but if anyone wants the specs on how I set up the test I'll look for my notes. Rick Universal4
