All my imporant documents may be lost! Problem with Nor... - 9/6/2005 23:37:23
Hello, First of all forgive me for poor English. I have a big problem with my PC. Two days ago, I used Norton Ghost 9.0 to copy my old hard disk to a new one and then format my old hard disk. After that I realize that in my new hard disk, some folders now can not be opened, I get error: "D:/My documents/ is not accessable. Access is denied" (My documents is an example folder). Some of my music, text files get the same error. I can not delete them at all. Someone can help me to solve this problem? Please... Regards,

If I understand what you have done, you have moved the old drive to a new drive and now have a fresh install and you are trying to get at the data? If not and this was originally a data drive it's also possible the security desriptor for your user has become corrupted. In either case, go to the d drive in windows explorer. Select the folders that are affected, right click and look at the properties. Choose the security tab. If you see a user there in the window that is not a name but is something like S-1-5-21-xxxx, select it and then click on remove. Then, click on add and add YOUR username to the list. After it populates the list with your name, select your name (the username you log on as) and be sure your rights are FULL. If this alone does not work, then you may also need to seize ownership of the folders. If upon right clicking the folder you do not see the security tab, then you will need to disable simple file sharing. To do that, open windows explorer, choose tools, folder options, the view tab. Scroll to the end of the list and uncheck Use Simple file sharing. Close and re-open windows explorer. and try the above steps again. Let us know if this works. Rick Universal4
