PaintShop Pro X - 9/10/2005 7:20:58
There is a new PaintShopPro X version that was just released this week (I think it was on Sept 6, 2005).

Anyone try it out yet and is it worth the upgrade price of $59.00?

ritarun,

I'm on Corel's - "this guy will buy anything as soon as it's released, let's notify him first" list.

Haven't heard a peep. Scam?

When/if I do hear then, yeah, I'll probably dig out the plastic and spring for it.

Dave,

Corel's business model seems askew or, with the Euro so strong, maybe they don't need my paltry USD now that they've hit the big time.

i didn't bother going any further as the installer reckoned i wasn't connected to the internet (same as for psp9 trial - which i contacted corel/jasc about and never received a reply). i wasn't thinking of buying it anyway and now i know for sure!

ritarun,

Got the Corel hustle this a.m. when I opened PaintShop Pro 9 and was online at the same time. True to form I sprung for the (boxed version) upgrade which is promised for delivery this week.

Corel says "X", among other things, is faster loading which, if true, will be reason enough for the upgrade. Right now PSP 9 loads at about the same speed as Adobe 6 :) on my otherwise fast machines.

Will let you know.

:)

Let me know if it's any good. We too got the PSP Hustle. I didn't buy 9 as it didn't seem worth it for the features as I had those in Photoshop but a couple of things I read about this one look good.

jaybee,

May have been a good non-decision. 9 came out with 2 patches - bang, bang - right away. Program works OK and I do like the expanded photo manipulation features but loading time is suspect which i suspect is one reason for the introduction of "X".

Don't blame you but it's my fault - I had an extra 0 in the number.:):):) Sorry!

RE: PaintShop Pro X - 9/21/2005 12:01:13
My initial evaluation of PaintShop Pro X very favorable.

After 10 minutes of use, I noticed: (1) program loads faster (turn-off default loading of "My Pictures" though), (2) program more intuitive with a "Learning Center" bar on the left, (3) View, Toolbars now actually displays what tool bars are loaded - no more guessing and (4) the Adjust, "Smart Photo Fix" feature is worth the cost of admission by itself. With this feature images can be manipulated on one screen via slide bars. Other "tweaks" still available such as Clarify, Red-eye Removal, Color Balance, Digital Camera Noise Removal, etc.

Boxed version (free S&H) for $59 USD also comes gratis with the standard version of Photo Album 6.0.

Many more features to explore and, hopefully, many more pluses to discover :)

Thanks Larry for your comments.
Thanks to everyone else for all of the other posts as well.

These comments are very helpful to me (and hopefully to others).

I'll have to see if I can scrape up some funds.....
