I think I know why, but am not sure what to do. My main PC is wired to everything, the router, the printer, etc. My laptop accesses the internet through the wireless network. I am thinking I cannot share the printer because my main PC is really not "on" the wireless network because, well for one, it isn't wireless. Do I need to set up another network and put both machines on it? Does anyone have a similar setup that can point me in the right direction? _____________________________ Duane Some people are like Slinkies . . . Not really good for anything . . . . . I have the same sort of thing set up at home, the main PC (wired) has the printer(s) attached as shared devices and my kids can print from their wirelss laptops no problem. We don't use passwords so that shouldn't be an issue. It appears to be permissions related, although what is a bit bizarre is when I first go the idea to print from the laptop, I logged on to my son's account, went to the printer portion of setting and set up the printer. It found it right away and I was able to print. An hour or so later, I logged into my daughter's account and tried the same thing, but it wouldn't find the printer. I then switched back to my son's account and the printer was still installed, but said not connected and I haven't been able to print since. _____________________________ Duane Some people are like Slinkies . . . I've had zero luck with three different Toshiba laptops and our network at the office. The first one refuses to see the network at all, though for a couple of days following a new printer installation it worked flawlessly... then changed its mind again and hasn't worked since... _____________________________ If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress? I really think it's how I have setup the network, not a problem with the laptop itself. I fired off an email to NETGEAR to ask if what I am trying to do is possible with this particular router as from what I have read, not all routers are created equal. Sadly, when it come to networking I am not real savvy. I consider it a minor miracle that the laptop is able to access the internet via the wireless network, but will be really pleased if I can get the printer up and going. I am trying to eliminate any excuse my kids may have for getting on my PC. Not that I don't love spyware as much as the next guy, but thought it would be nice to store all the bugs on just one machine. _____________________________ Duane Some people are like Slinkies . . . I did prior to my hard drive crash, but haven't done so since I installed the new one. My thinking was that the network I set up via the router settings was all I needed.
