Tailslide -> Barclays Accessible (?) redesign (9/13/2005 13:44:24)

Just noticed that Barclays (big UK bank) has had an overhaul of it's website - now it's using CSS for layout. Some of the other banks have also done this (Nationwide for example) but Barclays has now got a rather extensive Accessibility section: http://www.barclays.co.uk/accessibility/using_internet.htm

It's a bit of a shame that the page I tested has a priority 2 failure due to a lack of an alt tag - it appears to be on a dynamically generated dohickey down the bottom of the page.

Still - their accessibility page is worth looking at to ermm... borrow ideas from!

Good find Tail! Now if I could only persuade the Co-operative who've I've a business account with to do something about their appalling online banking system, I'd indeed be a happy womble!

I use HSBC and Abbey both have on-line banking that works well but you have to "upgrade" to IE to use it.

It's taken a while but many of the big UK companies are finally realising that they're breaking UK law. Sites are beginning to pop up with accessibility. Other half pointed out the Hollyoaks web site with compliance stuff on it. That's new.

BTW discovered the other day that it's also law in the UK for all e-commerce sites to have a Privacy Policy and Terms & Conds. I knew it was advisable but never realised it was law.

Hhmmm, interesting, I can imagine that's going to affect a lot of sites (though half of them probably don't realise it's the law)
