Hide Page name in Address Bar - 9/15/2005 12:14:50
I do not want my client to know the page name and path to certain pages in my website. How do I hide this page name in the address bar?

ex:

When it shows:
http://www.mywebsite.com/welcome.htm

I want:
http://www.mywebsite.com/

So I want just the website name for every page you are visiting withint he website. I have seen this done, but I do not know how. thanks.

Travis

First thought you could use frames as it would do just that.

Second thought you could use a javascript status bar manipulator found here as an example...

http://javascript.internet.com/navigation/protected-link.html

Then on all links you could use a popup window without an address bar found here... http://javascript.internet.com/generators/popup-window.html so they can not view what page appears in the address bar as you can turn that off with the utility.

Third thought, if on Apache, you can use mod rewrite to redirect page names.

Take care,

Brian

Thank you for the reply. I didnt think it would be that hard, but it looks like Microsft doesnt want you to have that option... I thought it would be a very simple line in Javascript that said no matter what page you are on the address bar would always display www.webpage.com

Sounds like it is not possible. Thank you

ask yourself this question... when YOU are surfing the web, do you want someone to block you from knowing where you are? do YOU want your web experience restricted?

It could be seen as a security issue - there are so many sites out there pretending to be something they're not...

I understand your point... However this is a restricted site that requires a username and password to gain access. It is not some mirror site or hidden type of thing. There is just some database issues I do not want to give them any idea where anything is... thats all.

however it sounds like a option that is not available.

I also thought it would make everything look clean as well...
