shawnded -> Unable to configure Frontpage server extensions (9/15/2005 22:08:28)

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to configure FrontPage server extension 2002 on my IIS 6.0 web server.

I was stuck at configuring the FPSE2002 from the website's 'all tasks' tab.
Instead of opening the FPSE webpage interface, it seems to call the fpadmdll file which i don't know what to do with.
(doesn't it already exist in one of the _vti_adm folders?)

I need the web authoring service for our users to enter some feedback via a ASP page and relay their data into a database.

Thank you so much for looking into this.

What is the error you are seeing.

It is correct for the extension manager to call that dll.

Are you doing this locally on the server or in a Terminal Session?

Is this a new website?

Has it propagated properly and is DNS correct?

When you go to All Tasks - check Server Extensions 2002 it should take you to that dll and you should see a web page that says something like
quote:

FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 - Site Administration for "http://www.example.com"
Check Server Health

Are you getting this page?

Hi, its calls the DLL when i work on the server locally and remotely.
It just ask to save or open.
It doesn't show the FPSE options page like i see in other threads here.

The website has been running for quite some time, i migrated over from an old IIS5.0 which has been configured with FPSE2000, seems like the configuration in IIS6.0 is quite different.
Do i need to install sharepoint?

Can anyone advise?

ellipisces -> RE: Unable to configure Frontpage server extensions (9/27/2005 3:40:41)

First and foremost...

What do the server logs say?

in winblows its in the event viewer...

shawnded -> RE: Unable to configure Frontpage server extensions (9/28/2005 2:54:23)

No major errors in event viewer.
Success audit for security tab for all the accounts logged in/out.
System shows error in SMTPSVC cos our smtp server hasn't been configured properly yet.
DNS works fine, able to browse site from external sources.

Seems like i'm not getting the webpage that comes up when u call 'configure server extensions' in IIS.
My database links and all are up but for users to key in data, i need it to enable authoring mode or is there another way?

ellipisces -> RE: Unable to configure Frontpage server extensions (9/28/2005 4:05:37)

yeah..

actually i think you're right...

it's just a web page on the server, not a dll

[edit]correction per coreybryants post. I have been away from winblows for a while and am not up to date on sharepoint and the like. I respectfully bow out of this post[/edit]search and you shall find...

I recommend doing this in a terminal session until you see that it works, so there is no issue with a port being blocked etc.

The most common reason for the extension manager not to run on a specific site is that the dns is incorrect, or a host header has a typo, is missing or something.

The dll in question should not be opened by windows explorer, but should open in Internet explorer.

Are you logged on as an administrator?
Are there other sites on this IIS install?
Are there other sites on this same IP?
