OK guys, I don't usually ask for help with something so completely and utterly stupid but I've been slogging away all week working on the secure section of this site and my last task was to make a quick change to the front page. Did it and now my brain is completely fried.

Can somebody please tell me why the border round the orange box is there in IE and not in FF?

(Yes I know the css is untidy and I promise I'll clean it up next week when I've had a rest) (honest)

Hi Jaybee

The problem's because you've got two border styles there:

border:3px solid ridge #800000

it should be:

border:3px ridge #800000

OH FOR Fffffffffff!!!!

See, told you it was stupid.

I stared and stared and stared at it.

Thank you. I can sleep tonight now.

ok - just a little curiosity here.. which was IE interpreting and which was FF interpreting and why?

jaybee -> RE: Borders vanishing (9/16/2005 14:17:25)

IE ignored the solid and rendered the ridge.

Firefox said, "don''t be stupid you can't do that" and refused to show anything, which is correct.

It's also why there's such awful code out there because IE lets you get away with it. I'll be intrigued to see how many sites fall flat on their faces when the new OS comes out with the apparently fully compliant browser

Oh I do that sort of thing all the time [:D]

The really annoying thing is that you KNOW it's something stupid but still can't see it. Makes you think you're going nuts doesn't it?

Dya know, I'm so completely frazzled that I ran the code through the html validator but it never occurred to me to run it through the css version.

What a pillock!

I need a stiff drink.
