Changing File Names - 9/17/2005 11:34:36
I've got to change every file name in my site--this is what FP says. There are hundreds of files. Is there a quick way to do this?

As it goes I'm just putting a letter just before the .jpg or .htm.

Or is there a way, using the Way Back Machine that would at least get the pages fixed--then I'll spend a day or so giving the images their new names.

You could use the old DOS command for renaming files "ren *.old *.new". That would work on a per directory basis.

You need TheRename; it's free, it's powerful and it's simple to use - I've been using it for years.

Why does FP say to do that?

Amazing!
After you rename all your files, do you have to go in and manually update all the html of your pages or will FP do that for you?

I don't know yet. There are too many files for me to go through, and I'm still looking for a simple way to do it.

I haven't yet uninstalled FP, and then reinstalled it. I'm about to try that.

I'm grasping at straws here.

clum1 seems to have found a valuable program in "The Rename". I'll get to it.

Thanks
