Here's a strange one for you... - 9/19/2005 8:44:42
Our "professional" IT guys were in last week upgrading all the machines locally to Win XP (SP2) and Office 2K3 with all associated corporate dictated securities, etc. I now have one user who, every time he opens Outlook has his monitor resolution reset to 640 x 480. This doesn't happen opening any other application, only Outlook AND any time he opens an attachment (any application) from Outlook after he resets the res. Anyone have any ideas on the problem or for a fix short of a complete rebuild?

Does your user still have the right drivers for his monitor, some of those updates make bad choices there? The other thing that occurs to me is the IE "security" patch where .exe links open in reduced window sizes. ( I can't remember the official name of this update, but it is in the recent ones.)

Mike, I feel for you, you're not the only one who's had this before. M$ ain't admitting it, but it's when Windoze doesn't quite install properly. Windoze & Office use the same graphics engine (well..umm...of course they do), and Office relys on several dlls, sys and ini files for the nice & shiny graphical displays.... Windoze being as crap as it is....sometimes doesn't install properly, leaving necessary files corrupt...or non-existant. The files are needed....but not compulsory, so it can run without them....just at a different resolution. There is a way to solve it without wiping the PC...but....wiping the PC is a damn sight easier than altering & extracting system files from the windoze disc :)
