URL forwarding to IP address. Frontpage pickup forwarding? - 9/22/2005 23:02:47
I didn't know where to search for this. Let me give the pages so you can see the IP address.
Target site http://www.jacksoncountyal.com/courthouse
forwarding URL jacksonco.alabama.gov

The state of alabama is forwarding their domain to the county website I do. (in frontpage)

They are forwarding it to and IP address only, and not a web address (the only option they have)

It goes to some area at godaddy (my host) but what do I do with it? I can't edit htaccess file, so is there anyway that frontpage can direct it to the page?

I'm lost here... Helps or idea will be great

I'm confused: why is forwarding to an IP the only option they have? It would seem to be a very simple thing to add a URL.

If your site is virtually hosted or even hosted on an in-house server using host headers then you probably don't have a static IP address. Many ISPs offer you the ability to upgrade (for more $$) to a static IP. Even so, the link they want is a sub-folder, so even forwarding to ###.###.###.###/courthouse would be required. Otherwise they;re jus tlooking at your main page.

Even if you could get that to happen, then you'd have the option of finding an ASP or even JavaScript that could redirect the user based on the referrer. A little tricky but do-able.
