Problem with printing labels in Word 2000 - 9/26/2005 13:49:39
Hi

Can anyone offer any suggestions to this.

A computer in work uses the envelopes and labels facility in Word 2000 to produce labels, but the print always comes out wrong, either straddling labels or just catching a label, never properly, ie bang in the middle.

Settings have been checked with other office printers and have been found to be exactly the same, position of label sheet is correct before it goes through printer - its just when it comes out of the printer it is never correct.

Any ideas why this might be happening?

Possibly something to do with the printer feed? If the printer's still under warranty, it might be worth getting someone out to look at it, but if it's an older printer it may not be worth the cost.

If it comes out wrongly in the same way every time you could try setting up a custom label so that you get the labels in the right position. It'll mean a bit of fiddling around and tweaking. I always use plain paper when I'm setting up labels to check the layout's right (hold the paper infront of the labels sheet to check everything's lined up correctly), then once I'm happy with it, print onto the actual labels sheet.

Good advice from Womble.

Word uses a lite, lite, lite version of Avery. My "fiddling and tweaking" days in Word are behind me - I bought Avery Design Pro Deluxe. Has templates galore, recognizes all Avery (and Avery knock off) labels and even supports a data base for multiple customer mailings.

Your employer has already wasted enough of your time and materials on this problem; get them to drop a few bucks for the full Avery program - well worth it.

Welcome to OutFront!

Thanks for your replies. I guess the tweaking it'll have to be 'cos I can't see our employers bothering to try and correct the problem by buying anoher program or getting the printer looked at.

Yes, I like the idea of customising a template just for this machine.

Thanks
