So if I just put it in a folder, with a link to each song. When they clicked the link, would it then open their default music player, and play the song?

Yep, that's what should happen :)

Cool, I will do that. I still want to provide a link to the myspace site, as this is a very popular site, but I will put our music up on our site today.

Ok, so I put the music in a folder, and linked to the individual songs. When I click on them, they do open my music player, but the music does not play. Now if this is a problem with my music player, then I will address that. I just want to make sure that I am not doing anything wrong.

Like I said Matt, this is the 'simple' approach and anything that depends on the user's machine having the right stuff/settings will be a little unpredictable. I've just looked at your music files, which are '.wma' (Windows Media Audio - I think!) - when I clicked the link they opened with Windows Media Player on my PC and they played right off - BUT... they did take a while to 'stream' and it wasn't 100% smooth. Now, I am on broadband so your narrow band listeners will probably not get far with these at all. I assumed you would use MP3 versions, this would work much better - try my MP3 test file (on my 'test site') and see the difference.

Go here, (you may need to use your browser stop button when you first hit the page as there happens to be an embedded bgnd midi-file in the page) - click the ~x~ at the bottom of the page to see what happens with the MP3 sound file I put there.

I'm sorry, I meant to post that I had some problem with the files. I fixed the files, and it worked fine. I will be adding options for both streaming audio and MP3. Some people actually have problems with MP3. I have already encountered that problem. For now this will work. I will take a look at your link, and go from there. Thanks again.

Ok, so I finally got around to trying the scrollable text box. When I try it, it gives me a form designed to be filled in by a visitor to the site. That is not what I need. Rick said that the directions he gave were for the latest version of FP. I have FP 2002. Is this the problem? Help me out here guys. I went ahead and put up the news page, but before I can add any more news, I need to have a scrollable box. Thanks, as always.

Insert text box > R-click > form field properties > initial value: type in your news details there.

Your other choice is to insert an 'inline frame' - set the frame properties to 'read' the information from another page > put all you info in that other page - this means you can update the news box from a stand alone page withouit having to open the page that has the news on it - make sense!?

Ok, the insert text area option works great. However, it is very limited. It only allows me to use one color for text. I would really like to put the date headings in a different color to make it very easy for people to find the latest stuff. This idea does work great, and I am going to use it, but if someone knows of a better option I wold appreciate it.

Okay then, use the inline frame: INSERT > INLINE FRAME > set the page and apply all your formatting to the news text on that page.

I was actually just looking into that option. I had avoided it because of the discussions of how evil frames were. Then as I thought about it, I thought to myself, "self, you know many of the problems with a frame page would not apply to a single inline frame on one page in your site." Hmmmmmm. Thanks Rick. Am I correct in thinking that iframes do not carry so many of the problems of a frames driven page?

Iframes are a very different thing to designing a whole site 'within a frame'. I am not aware of any special problems relating to inline frames.

Thanks alot! Inline frames seem to be the perfect answer to my problem.

I did read somewhere though that not all browsers can handle inline frames...

I will try in the more popular browsers, and see how it works. I don't think I can design a website that can be perfectly view by everyone, everywhere, on any browser. So at some point I have to make some concessions. But I will see how it works on the more popular ones. I know it works on IE, and FF.

If it works on IE 5, 5.5, 6 & FF you've covered 95% - at a guess:)

I couldn't remember last night where I'd read it, but I've just my "FP for dummies" book and it's in there. It says:
quote:

It's best to avoid using IFrames whenever possible because it isn't standardized and many browsers don't support it. A browser that supports standard frames doesn't necessarily provide support for IFrames

It isn't any more specific though, and I suppose with the development of new versions of browsers it's probably out of date now anyhow.
