gessosaxman -> Updated site. (9/27/2005 14:41:26)

Ok, so I updated my site using some of your suggestions. At this point I have only changed the main page. Let me know what you guys think. I have tried this one in fire fox, and IE6 and it works great, I have not tried it in any other browsers yet, but will. If you guys like this one, then I will be changing all the pages to reflect the changes in this page. Thanks, again for the input.

Ok, so lot's of people had very helpful comments when the site first went up. Now that I have changed it, no one has anything to say. If you don't want to tell me what I am doing wrong (I know I am doing some stuff wrong), then tell me what you like about it.

patience, young man, patience

caz -> RE: Updated site. (9/28/2005 22:49:24)

Well, it looks much better, if loading a little slowly and I am on broadband, those on 57k dial-up might get tired of waiting for the images to load. You could optimise them more in your graphics application. Have a look a the speed report in the Fx Web Developer toolbar: Tools>Speed report.

Brandon -> RE: Updated site. (9/28/2005 23:29:53)

I agree with caz slow to load...you might want to optimize that picture....also I don't like how it goes to a different site when you click on music....why don't you just do that same thing on your site? Other then that it's easy to find my way around....and get info about the band

gessosaxman -> RE: Updated site. (9/29/2005 6:03:29)

I am getting read to put the music on my site. The outside link was just a quick fix, so people that went to our site had some way of hearing our music.

When you guys talk about optimizing the graphics, what exactly do you mean? Should I loose the graphic buttons for the links, and just stick with words? I have been to many sites that were much more graphic intensive, without a problem, so what do I need to do to speed it up. Thanks, as always.

Donkey -> RE: Updated site. (9/29/2005 6:25:56)

The first page looks OK but I wouldn't look any further because I find your religious statement to be deeply offensive. IMHO you are either selling your music or peddling your religion if you try and do both you are always going to upset a good proportion of your potential visitors.

As someone who could have been interested in your music I have no interest in whatever strange beliefs you happen to hold.

Brandon -> RE: Updated site. (9/29/2005 21:00:42)

optimizing means loading the pic. into a photo editing program and optimizing. It's usually a option...It takes the pic and reduces the size of it.

gessosaxman -> RE: Updated site. (9/29/2005 23:07:53)

Donkey, I respect your view, even if I do not agree with it. However, I do not think this is the place to discuss that. If you decide because I am a Christian to not want to help me any more, then that is your right. However, always remember, it is you who have judged me.

You know Brandon, now that you mention it I seem to remember that option in photoshop. Thanks. I will look into that.

d a v e -> RE: Updated site. (9/30/2005 0:19:10)

Matt - i don't think that your religious statement is 'deeply' offensive' but i find the gesso metaphor a bit forced and i was a bit confused as to what kind of site it was - whether it was music (or Art!) or an expression of your beliefs.

of course you want to have your statement of beliefs up there but i personally don't like the way the prose flows or rather doesn't! ;)

just tell me what your site is and why - and simply! :)

spitfire -> RE: Updated site. (9/30/2005 5:41:42)

Matt
A (two) quick observations:
1) I think the textual content would look less cluttered with some left and right padding and (possibly) if it was aligned left.

2) Do you guys ever smile? [:D]

womble -> RE: Updated site. (9/30/2005 6:02:53)

Hi Matt,

Generally looks much better, though I agree with spirefire about the padding. I think if you add a little padding in it'll make the whole thing look a little less 'squashed in'. Like the others, I found it loaded a little slowly. I also think you'd benefit from having a consistent font across the site. You seem to have a sans serif font on the image at the top of the page, and serif (but different ones) everywhere else.

gessosaxman -> RE: Updated site. (9/30/2005 8:48:08)

I will add some "pad" to the text. I agree with that. I simply hadn't thought about it until you guys mentioned it. As to the wether the site is for music, or an expression of our beliefs, it is both. The music is about the message. They can not be separated. Gesso is an unusual name for a band. I felt that as such I needed to explain what it was and what it's spiritual significance was. Since the site, and the band are about both music and the expression of our beliefs, how might I let people know about both on this first page. Oh, and I am doing away with the logo index page. I know many of you were against that.

not permitted any more

The music is about the message.

Hey, you've taken down the message. As far as I can remember, the wording was a bit tortuous, but that is easily fixed. I see an "About us" link on the new index page, which I didn't notice before and perhaps you had it in mind to talk further about the band members' Christian beliefs there.

Personally, I see nothing wrong in home page text explaining your music is influenced by your beliefs - then you can offer a link to a page going further into that aspect of your work/lives for visitors who want to know more. Double-message sites are hard to pull off. Try to agree with the others the primary reason visitors may come to your site and angle the site towards them - mind you, with no meta keywords in there for search engines, you'll likely only get visitors who already know you [;)]

gessosaxman -> RE: Updated site. (9/30/2005 15:28:41)

The message has been moved to the "about us" page. There will be a new message there soon, with a brief description of our style, along with something that let's people know about our influences. I am just working on the wording right now.
