pheasantgirl -> Second hard drive (9/27/2005 18:20:33)

I'm doing work for a non-profit trying to deal w/ donated computers. These computers have legitimate 98 licenses but the guy before me upgraded them all to XP with some kind of student version of it and we don't have access to original XP cd's or licenses right now. I can get the the XP upgrades but not for a week or so.

In the meantime, by the time XP w/ SP2 was put on together with Office 2003 (for which we don't appear to have CD or license) they have no hard drive space left. I'm having them save documents to a hard drive on the network with a little extra space, but I need to install some programs such as their scanner software and Adobe Acrobat.

I have some old hard drives of varying sizes. Normally I would replace their 4 gig drives with some 10 gigs I have sitting around but then I lose Windows XP and Office since I don't have the CD's.

My question is this...if I add a formatted second hard drive as a slave, will I be able to install programs on it? I need space for programs, not for data.

Thanks!

I've always put together my PCs with 2 HDs, one for programs and the other for data. That way I can structure my backups. Sometimes I've put programs on the D: drive and have never had a problem. Indeed that would be a serious problem with Windows if you couldn't.
