Nicole Posts: 2831 Joined: 9/15/2004 From: Nambucca / Kempsey, Australia Status: offline	Hover/Focus issue with Colour Blind Filters - 9/28/2005 22:02:33 I have a template that has a rollover effect on the navigation menu that changes from red to green on hover and focus. I've just run this template through a colour blindness filter and discovered that both the red and green colours appear the same (exactly the same olive colour) for Protanope and Deutanope, thus eliminating any rollover effect. The link boxes are clearly labeled with white text that contrasts well with the red/green background colour and also the olive, therefore the words are still very visible and are obviously links as the arrow changes to a hand on hover, but as mentioned the rollover effect is totally lost to both of these conditions. Can anyone tell me if this is still acceptable or whether I should change the red/green colours to either lighter or darker or maybe add an underline to the hover and focus? (both of which I'd prefer not to do), or can anyone think of any other solution? Nicole _____________________________

Worst combination you can have for colourblind. I don't see why it would be a problem, it's not as if the rollover is vital to understanding of the purpose. If you really want the rollover visible then try putting a subtle pattern on the roll or a small arrow or something. It'll mean using a graphic but as long as it's not fancy it shouldn't be too big _____________________________ If it ain't broke..... fix it until it is. GAWDS Now where did I put that Doctype? Something to keep in mind for future projects I guess. It's funny, it's a restaurant template and I've created a few different types. This one is Italian, hence the green and red, which means....10% of Italian men think their flag is olive and white? I have never considered colourblindness even though I have problems with blue/green. Example traffic lights to me are red, amber and blue. Grass to me is green however. I may see a site where the colours are within my problem area but I never even think of it. I would not consider it as long as I can read the contents easily. To me it is not a major and issue and anyway the colours and attractiveness of a site is subjective. Anyway I had better go as the traffic lights have turned to blue.
