Spooks old chap - the question was asked and answered in great detail by different people including Dan - a little meandering "after the fact" does no harm and is the reason that this forum is such a nice place to visit. No need to be sheepish! Edit: oops - I was a bit OT there! Also good is Notetab light (also free which is also good!). My faves are: HTML-kit, Notepad ++, Notetab Light. Crimson editor is quite nice too. Arachnophilia is waaay too garish to use day in day out.

trust me, it isnt hard and a notepad (and one good book) route is a great way to go. Thanks for the debate here. I'm at the point of wanting to write code in notepad, rather than rely on FP2003. I find on line tutorials hard and don't want to print off loads. What would be your recommedation of a good book to master HTML please?

I used Notepad plus Sams teach yourself HTML 4 in 24 hours. That was several years ago so obviously you'll want whatever the latest version is - I think it's Teach yourself HTML and XHTML. I read quite a few different books at the outset - HTML for Dummies etc but I found the Sams books to have a good balance of imparting information without completely confusing you.

I started with the exact same combo - the Sams teach yourself in 24 hrs are excellent beginner books. they give you a clear picture of what you are doing - it doesnt makeyou an expert but its enogh to code a nice site and knowledge base to build on
