Where has all my data gone?! - 8/9/2001 20:26:00

For years I've had issues with FrontPage forgetting my shared borders. I eventually found where they are stored (quite by accident) and can now fix them as the need arises.

Lately, however, FrontPage has gone a step further and is stripping everything between the <body></body> tags when I open a page for editing.

The pages display fine in the browser, but when I open them in FrontPage this is all I get:

There is no closing </html> tag either.

If I view the source of a page from Explorer, then paste the stuff back into the body in FrontPage, I can edit and save it as I normally would, and the changes take effect.

This probably wouldn't bother me that much, except I have several hundred pages and a bunch of users with very basic skills.

It is only occurring in a couple of sites on the same server. The rest of them are fine.

Any suggestions? We'll be moving to Lotus in January but I can't leave the maintenance that long.

FP98 used to do very freaky things when there was asp or cold fusion code on a page. FP 2000 and 2002 have never acted up like that for me. I'm thinking you have something horribly the matter with your hardware. I have no idea what, however. (in reply to Guest)

I'll answer this one myself now I've worked it out.

The problem was the </html> tag was missing from the Top and Left shared border pages.

Initially I tried just adding the tag to the end of the code for these pages, but FrontPage insisted on deleting them the moment I hit save.

I cut the border info out in Normal view, and pasted it into a new page then saved that to the shared borders folder.

Lo and behold, when I shut down and restarted FrontPage, everything was as it should be and my code was displaying again.
