Laurie W -> Error/Event Handling (3/15/2001 16:12:00)

Is there a way to trap errors/events? Here is what is happening:

I have a hyperlink that opens an Access database, but only if the user has network rights to the database. If they don't have rights, then they get an error page (like "can't display page").

If possible I would like to display a different page instead of the "can't display page" so they can get back into the site easier. Is this something that can be done in FrontPage?

Thanks...Laurie

Some hosts (most I imagine) give you the option to use custom error pages.

You can certainly create them in FP but will need to contact your host (or have a look around their site for instructions) to implement them.

As an example towards the bottom of this page you find the instructions for doing it with one particular host: http://www.digihost.com/support/controlpanel/unix/cpanel_unix.htm

Thanks for your reply. This is occurring on our intranet, so I guess we are the "host". I am going to try to make up a page and name it as was in the example site you gave and see if it will work. Thanks again.

Well, that didn't work. I made pages called "error###.html" with the appropriate error numbers in the name and it didn't do anything. We are just working off a regular server here, so this must be different. The example given was to redirect URL to a custom error message and I don't know how to do that on our server. Maybe you can't... ??
