"Relative" Blues - 10/8/2005 2:54:51
Ok, I am going nuts.

I cannot get my paths to home to the Web page root.
FP2003.

In a page running from my Web-root.

This Works Fine
<p><img border="0" src="images/BLTheaterbutton.jpg" width="119" height="49"></p>

This does Not
<p><img border="0" src="/images/BLTheaterbutton.jpg" width="119" height="49"></p>

Is there some other syntax I can use??

Both should work fine. Can you give upload an HTML page with both paths on it for us to review?

And also - the virtual link will not work locally - only on the server

DPF,

I am using includes to build a common format and functions for my site.

http://stratu.hostcentric.com/stratus.htm is an example
I build the element as an include then use CSS and div to position that element whenever I want to use that format.

If the "relative" address must be constructed specifically for each parent sheet what is the point??? I need to have includes that work from whatever directory I run the "parent" page from. Multiple paths (../ ../../../ ./ ) in the _included files mean that the "parent" sheet must always be at the same directory level.

Perhaps there is a cleaner approach...?

The virtual path should work on the includes if it is not a Frontpage include. If it is a FP include, use a relative path.

But you are on the right track, we use virtual paths all the time with our includes - we have found it makes it easier for us in the long run

Corey,

In posting the test page for you I got it to work.
In truth it probably worked all along.
That is what I get for testing Locally. :)

Seems a shame the front page folks don't create a virtual mount point in windows so the pages can be tested locally. When I get some time I might play around with that....

Thanks:)

I do not think it is FP's fault actually, it is your computer. Keep in mind that the virtual link takes you back to where? The root, so in essence, you are going back to C: and now over to C:\images. So if you put your images in that folder - you would see them.
