RickP -> Laptop Hard Drives ? (10/11/2005 7:52:45)

I don't use a laptop and have never looked inside one but would like to know...

Is it possible to connect to a laptop hard drive (as a standalone with no laptop to go with it!) from a desktop PC?

Cancel that query! - sorry, should have searched more thoroughly first! I found the 2.5 laptop HDD to 3.5 Desktop converter kit[;)] Found one on Ebay actually and arrived 11 mins before bid close and no-one else had bid so I got it for a song [:D] [sm=whistling.gif]

Re this notebook adapter...

The end that goes to the desktop PC data ribbon connector has, as would be expected, 40 pins. Unfortunately... the desktop PC that I would like to put it in (Packard Bell) - all its data cable connectors have one blanked out piece in the centre of the plug - (do you know what I mean ?) Any suggestions?[8|]

Buy an enclosure box for the hard drive. Those usually connect either by USB or Firewire. Another advantage is when the hard drive is full you can pull it out and put another unit in the box.

Most computer stores sell them.

Hi Traveler

Can you get one enclosure that takes either 2.5 & 3.5 HDDs?
