Definitive answer on outbound links? - 10/12/2005 6:35:59
I know that a "definitive answer" is wishful thinking when it comes to second guessing Google and other search engines, but does anyone have something close to a definitive answer on the question of outbound links?

Say that I wanted to sell links on my homepage (not sure if I do, but just hypothesising...) So my homepage has 100 outbound links on it (to related sites of course) - is that good or bad in terms of SEO?

In browsing this and other forums, views range from one extreme to the other. "You could get banned" is one view, whereas "It will boost your rankings" is another.

Thanks for any views

This is only my opinion...

When I do link pages I try to keep it under 50 as I have heard that's where it diminishes greatly on PR passed and other factors. Never mention on your site that you are selling text links for the sake of PR, that's where the line is crossed. If just selling links then you are OK.

Here are some good reads on out bound links and the PR that is passed...

outbound links.. links on your page that point to another site..... do not improve your rankings - it might improve theirs which is why they might pay you. understand that Google's philosophy was a link pointing to a site, represents a "vote" that it is a worthy site.
