i would definitely ask to upgrade from fp2000 - newer versions superior. why switch to DW wehn you are still learning and have invested in FP? I wouldnt
what graphics program are u using? put paint shop pro or adobe on your wish list or macromedia fireworks

imo best editor for the web is MM Fireworks - though paintshop pro is popular, as is photoshop. if you're doing *a lot* of photo work consider photoshop or if you need it for professional printing then photoshop (or jasc/corel paintshop pro could be good as well)
i'm a dreamweaver user but i would suggest sticking with fp (though obviously look at FP 2003) though you might want to try out dreamweaver : in the end it's what you find best to work with that suits what you need (though i would highly recommend DW! ;)

What's the big difference between the two? Is DW hard to learn? harder to use? We are on a limited budget for our web site as well, so am I correct in assuming that DW is also more expensive?? We want our site to stay simple, but we still want it to look good. Since our site is also not a business site, easy maintenance is more important since I do it between all my other duties.

- I've found that Paint Shop Pro is a lot easier/user-friendly than the other two listed. Before you make a decision on what software to grab, install their demos. I know PhotoShop and Fireworks both have trial demos.
If you decide to go with FP03, it appears you can grab it for ~$90 > reference

Well, as you see everyone carries their own opinion. Maybe FW was more user friendly. I was used to PSP quite a bit, and that could have affected my decision about FW.

if you know what I mean. I was pushed into this job and though I enjoy it, really have no clue what I am doing. You're suggestions would be most helpful. 
we have the debate at least once a month. if you are interested, search the forum. historically, DW was much better tho FP is closing the gap. FP is cheaper and make no mistake - you can make a very good pro site with fp - many people here do. dont let the fp bashers tell u its no good. bottom line is simple:
