Help, error message - 10/21/2005 18:05:31
My host made some changes on their side and I was unable to publish after the changes. They were going to manually install my extensions. I got an email from them saying they manually reinstalled my extensions. Now as soon as I hit the publish icon I get this message, Server error: Server configuration file "/usr/local/apache/config/fake.conf" has no port or ServerRoot directive. Please check that you have the correct configuration file for your server type. Is this the type of error I can do anything about, or is this something strictly on their side? I tried calling tech support but they close at 5:30 PM EST and I called at 5:31 PM. They're not back until Monday Morning. Thanks for any help.

Your host doesn't provide support after 5:30 PM EST? Unless you are getting free hosting, I would suggest you drop the host. It sounds like a problem is with your host, if they won't correct it, leave. There are so many choices for hosts who actually provide decent support. Having support leave on Friday, and come back on Monday, is like having a taxi driver take a nap while driving downtown LA.

Thanks Bobby, I guess I should have been more cleat. Their phone support leaves at 5:30. They do have email support, but I've never had much luck with them getting back to me very soon either. I did email them with the error message and so now it's just sit tight and wait. Thanks for the input. Bob

How committed are you to this host? I ask that simply because I feel fairly strongly that those who choose to use FrontPage especially FP components that rely on the FP extensions would have a lot fewer headaches if they chose a host with Windows servers. It is possible to run the extensions on Apache, but it better be a very good host that knows what he/she is doing. If possible, I would seek out a host that can put you on a windows box.
