Advice on advanced site build? - 10/23/2005 7:51:17
Hello,

I am working on a site for our intranet. I already have a basic site up and running, using spooky for admin.

My question is this, and I will try to be as detailed as possible:

I need to expand the site to include more features and not sure which is the best approach... either redesign, add more to existing site, etc.

1.) Need member controlled access, no one gets past the first page without logging in, and all users must be manually approved for site access (spooky works great for this)

2.) Need to have discussion area - both public and private (group access).

3.) Shared files (doc, jpg, mpg, xls, ppt, etc.) in both public folder area (all can access) and in hidden/restricted area - only certain members can see files/folders. (i currently have a simple version of this running using spooky for hiding/access control) Currently can only upload one file at a time, need multiple file upload, overwrite protection, and large file size availability (no more than 80MB (ppt files are the bulk of this).

4.) calendar - have one currently working but not very many features.

5.) easy creation of public and hidden file shares at later time - currently have to edit the top level download page, and then edit each new group of pages it creates...

I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions. I am currently looking at aspplayground.net but not sure if this is what i should be looking at. Would this be more like a portal? Not sure about sharepoint either. I am really stuck on this one.

The server is running 2003, and all pages are in asp.

Thanks,
dave

It looks like you're heading towards a Content Managed site. As we're talking ASP I'm immediately out of my area of expertise so I'd suggest you go and have a look at what's available here The CMs start third one down.
