judybarrett -> Dynamic vs. Static websites (10/23/2005 19:56:07)

Hello, All. I've been a lurker here for a long time, and I read Tom's newsletters every week. So this is first a hello to all. I need some advice. I'm setting up a new website for my small business, and being a non-techie, I've found a young man who works in my field to help. He is suggesting a dynamic versus static web site, because he says it's a lot easier to make changes right online. I've read, however, that some search engines won't list dynamic sites. My web person also told me that the long and odd-looking URLs that you get with a dynamic site can be masked (my term), so they're shorter and easier to remember. However, somewhere I thought I'd read that search engines may reject those masked links. I'm using security software to protect several levels of folders. Dynamic sounds more "sexy," but static sounds possibly safer for better search engine listings? Any help is appreciated. Pardon the ramble. Judy
