help required for making a site :S - 10/27/2005 18:36:50
Okay, so my boss wants me to make a web site for my division. I got teamed up with the technical guy, who, using notepad, made a piece of junk site that had unresponsive buttons and broken tables. Irritated, I got Frontpage 2003 and am using it on my Office XP. There seems to be many, many problems, though. Every time I change the slightest thing, it changes everything. I even ran out and bought 'Frontpage for dummies', but that didn't help me. I don't have time to learn this whole process, because I need results by Monday. Can anybody please aid me in constructing this site? Please contact me through email at Phoenix_Trex AT Yahoo DOT com if you can help me out. Thank you very much.

Fact is, you go back to your boss and you tell him that it's not as easy as everyone thinks, your tech guy messed up what he did and you're not a web designer. You then tell him you need training and then time to do it properly or he can cough up for a web pro to do it. exactly. and in fairness to the "tech guy", there is a mistaken perception that once someone is knowledge in some area of computers, they are expected to be knowledgeable in all. M brother is a fine real estate lawyer but if I were arrested on a criminal charge, I wouldn't call him. And when i had kidney stones, my family doc didn't treat them. by monday? outrageous!

Good luck Nescesito! Maybe you could ask your boss, or if you know the answer just tell us:: 1. If the toilet blocks up at work, does your boss get one of the staff to fix it, or do they call for a plumber? 2. If they have a car accident do they bang the dings back into shape themselves, or do they call a panel beater? 3. If they get injured in that car accident, do they go to a hospital or call a doctor? Or do they sew themselves up and hope that'll be allright? It's great to see that you knew about FrontPage to go and buy it, and the book, but like the others have said it takes a bit more than that. It actually takes years to develop the skills required to create a nice looking, functional website. Not to mention a bit of creative flair and a lot of hard work spending very long days and nights to nut out idiocyncracies (sp?) between the different browsers, screen resolutions, coding and accessibility standards the list goes on..... Does your boss value their business? Do they realise the negative consequences of a poorly produced, probably non-functional website can have on their business? Please let us know how you go. Nicole

at the very least, 2 months work. and that is full time! unless you earn $500 or so month, you could certainly get a pro for less than your salary for a basic site.
