CPU cooler advice plz - 10/31/2005 16:40:33
I'm thinking of replacing the bog standard (read as shi7e) intel CPU cooler for my 3 gig Prescott ASUS MOBO PC.

So wondering who has what or has had a good one they would say was worth having.

Price range upto about 50/100 pounds for a really sh1t hot one that makes ice cubes while it keeps my PC's CPU cool is desirable. :))

If you assemble you own PCs, as I do, and want something relatively quiet, you might consider including a Zalman Reserator:

Don't know if it'll work with your MOBO.

Not really ready to make the jump upto water cooling just yet, but that looks purty sweet. :)

I Was looking at Zalman Flowers before, they seem pretty decent and some of the reviews look tasty too.

What kind of setup are you running? Why do you think your current one will not be sufficient enough? Are you doing OCing or what?

I have heard as much as 13-15 degrees difference going from a standard fan to something like this.

At the moment I have a CPU temp of late 30's (36 - 39 C) when the PC is idle, and late 40's C (46 - 48) when working it/gaming hard.
MOBO temp of 20 - 22 C Idle, few degrees C up when running for a while and running hard/gaming.

While I know they are fairly low/average for a 3 Gig Prescott I'd be happier keeping them as low as possible. Currently not OC'd but that is a game I have yet to venture into and will eventually just for learning experience.
My case is now the Antec one I posted about a while back, though it's currently a bit crowded and badly set up as it's still running ATA HDD's. (Awaiting my 2 matched SATA's later this week.)

That aside, these look pretty gooood.

Copper doofah

Silver W head jobbie

Some of the Zalman solutions are kinky too.

If you purchased your CPU retail, you will be perfectly fine with what you have. People who usually do heavy OCing will purchase these better heatsinks/fans. You have a decent case with adequate cooling, there is no need to waste money on something that really won't help much.

Yeah it's a genuine Intel Heatsink fan.

Other element here also is looks, it don't have any...

I don't mind paying out for practical and aesthetic in one. :)

I can't even see mine, can you actually see yours if it was a cool looking one that lit up?

Those Blue LED ones will be fine for cooling an Intel CPU.

Nice rig. :)

Will have to wait a while for pics of mine, will have to wait for camera batteries to charge first.

The cables and such are too cluttered. If you can see your heatsink, then buy a sexy one, if you can't, there is no reason to buy something that looks better, if you can't see it.

Mine is going to look even worse when I add another 8 tiny cables throughout the case.

The cable issue is becoming a PITA really, so you are left with little choice to make a feature of them I guess, ala Venger II with the neon/UV IDE's I used, now going to SATA I'm buggered....

A new fan/heatsink would look pretty nice inside the case.

A Zalman blue led one might be your best option.
