Hiya guys

This is not a client's business site but more of a personal site. Just to see what people thought of it, the good side and the bad side please :)

Thanks a lot

Andy

Ghostwalk UK

Andy, Unfortunate it's on Geocities as their ads ruin everything, however, other than that it's not bad although I found some things a little difficult to read. The Dungeons and Dragons logo doesn't stand out too well and the menu text is a bit on the small side.

Both of these appear to be beautifully designed and it's a shame you can't see them properly.

I too found a lot of the text diffiult to read. Some of it's very small, and using a serif font on a dark background doesn't always make for easy reading.

Ummmmm, hate to say this but FF displays the site exactly as you have designed it. IE is the one that's wrong.

Oh really?!?! that's wierd. Only cause i downloaded it and it was all over the place :( Has anyone else had that problem or is really just me? lol

Yeah i agree that geocities sites are ok coz theyre free but they dont do websites justice and look tacky [8D]. I use http://www.web-mania.com and for about £40 you can a decent hosting/support service and domain name. If you made that push it would be worth it i think.

Other than that the site layouts nice but i too, struggle reading some of the text ie the feats page. Works fine me in ff and IE.

Hi Andy,

Firefox is a standards compliant browser, therefore it displays a site as it has been coded. If it doesn't display as intended in Firefox, then it hasn't been coded correctly.

A lot of us here test our sites initially in Firefox, then move to the other browsers to see how they look.

On the webhosting question - I use UKWSD who I can't praise enough for their customer service. I resell their space and I also recommend them to all my clients (so I need them to be good!).

Their base package is £24.66 a year for a 100mb storage and 4gb transfer monthly all on UK servers.

walrus -> RE: http://uk.geocities.com/ghostwalkuk (11/5/2005 4:35:29)

I like the site.

I would say that a site like this is a classic example of where using external style sheets is essential.

The pages are full of style code which often repeats itself. It would also allow you to quickly experiment with different fonts without having to restyle the entire site. I think we all agree that the default font is not going to work, mainly because it looks terrible/unreadable on the smallest text-sizes. If you want to stick with this font, then increase the smallest text-sizes

I really like the navigaton menu. Why noy carry on that font throughout the site. Much easier to read.

All of the nav menu is an image though Walrus (though it does have alt tags).
As a side issue, speaking of images, that leads me on to accessibility, which isn't just a case of small/difficult to read fonts. There are some images without alt tags (which you can highlight using the FF web developer's toolbar).

On the FF v FF thing, in IE the 'Ghostwalk UK' title is right up at the top of the page, which is I guess where you intended it to be, whereas in FF there are a stack of Geocities ads on the left and the title is pushed right down leaving a big blank space at the top of the page. As has been mentioned before though, FF renders how it's been coded, while IE tends to do what it likes.
