I am running Windows XP. If anyone has had this problem or knows how to fix it please contact me. Thankyou

Not sure why MySQL would do this to you, but maybe it is from something else. Give this a look: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767

I had some problems initially doing this - in the end I went for a prepackaged version - WAMP (windows, apache, mysql, php) which downloads the lot in one go - much easier. There's also Xamp which does much the same thing.

I think if you're going to use mySQL then you're going to need PHP and Apache anyway so you might as well get them all in one go! PHP myadmin is a very easy way to administrate dbs - although it was sort of fun doing the whole command line thing - 'cept when you make a spelling mistake halfway through the thing and have to start again.

MySQL is normally run on Unix machines and Tailslide is quite correct that the way most people set it up is with a full WAMP install.

There is however a Windows install routine available here
