Problem with Feedback Form on WinXP/IIS 5.1 server but ... - 11/9/2005 2:00:40
I have been driving myself crazy for the last few days trying to resolve this problem and I am looking for some help. I am working on my WinXP Pro/IIS 5.1 server with FP2000 extensions. I have created a web site and have added a simple feedback form (add new feedback form page, save feedback form page, no tweaking). When I preview the page in both IE and Netscape, I get the feedback form to load but when I hit the submit button I get a blank page in response, instead of the usual confirmation stuff. I have done a head to head evaluation between WinXP Pro / IIS 5.1 and FP2000 extensions and Win2K Pro / IIS 5.0 and FP2000 extensions (using Virtual PC 2004 for identical environments) and have found that when I do identical steps on both, the feedback form works in my Win2k Pro environment but not in my WinXP Pro environment. Here are the steps of my test: 1. Install either Win2k Pro or WinXP Pro 2. Install IIS with FP2000 Extensions 3. Install FrontPage 2000 4. Create a new web site (http://localhost/myweb) 5. Add a new Feedback Form Page. 6. Without tweaking the settings on the page, save it at feedback.htm 7. Preview the page in my browser (http://localhost/myweb/feedback.htm) 8. Hit the submit button. 9. Browser displays in the the address bar: http://localhost/myweb/_vti_bin/shtml.dll/feedback.htm At this point it differs, on the Win2k Pro system, I see Form Confirmation information, on the WinXP Pro sytem, I see only a blank page. Any ideas? Grendelos

vti_bin and shtml.dll, from my understanding, are virtual to IIS with FP Server Extensions. They do not exist on either the Windows XP Pro setup or on the Win2k Pro setup mentioned earlier. So I could understand that if it was present on the Win2k but not on the XP, then there could be a link. I will throw this extra bit of information to you, in my last post, I should have been more specific as to which version of WinXP I installed, it was WinXP Pro w/SP2 (SP2 bundled with the install). After I posted the last message, I tryed the same setup with WinXP Pro (pre SP1) and the feedback form works properly just like the Win2k Pro setup, so there could be a link with SP2, but I don't know for sure. Any other ideas? Grendelos

And one more piece of information, when I apply SP2 to the above mentioned WinXP Pro setup, the feedback form still works. I just have no idea at this point as to what the problem is. Grendelos
