Frontpage refuses to save a page and "freezes"... - 11/10/2005 0:58:46
I have a fresh install of Win XP Home, Office XP 2003 Pro and FrontPage 2003. All have been updated with the latest updates via Microsoft. The problem: I am building my site and saving many different kinds of pages which include webbots, javascript, etc. All of those pages save with no problem. There is ONE page which refuses to save and causes my system to freeze whenever I try to save the file. The file: I created a simple list of questions for an "FAQ" page, set it as a numbered list and then right click to set the list properties to "Enable Collapsed Outlines" and "Initially Collapsed". Then when I try to save the page it shows the path in the lower left status bar as pulling the file from my temporary internet files folder which FP uses for unsaved files. This is where is freezes. If I wait long enough I get a "the server unexpectedly closed the connection" error. I have tested to see if it is related to the "time" it takes to save the file by saving a page with a full size 6 MB image on it. That page saved with no problem so it's not a server timeout issue. The page causing the freeze up is less than 10 kb. I thiknk the problem is specific to the webbot which causes the dynamic outline of the expanding list. Has anyone else had this type of problem and how did you remedy the problem?

I would delete the file and re-create it, but that's just me. I think there is a way for you to clear FrontPage's cache, that has been said to fix issues with files in the past. If you're trying to resolve this fairly quickly, and have some time, you might want to give the above idea a try. If not, just wait for someone who knows this answer. Also, here is some info that might help you out: http://www.frontpagewebmaster.com/m-71238/tm.htm Before you do anything such as deleting a file, make sure you have a backup. If you aren't sure how to do this, or what I mean, then please reply back before you anything. Once you delete a file, it will be very hard to restore that file.

Yes, I've already tried that. Deleting the file and starting over from scratch doesn't work around it either. I've also created the file in notepad and tried to ftp the file to my site but that causes a freeze up also. My hosting service has even deleted my entire account and totally reinstalled me from scratch with no luck on fixing the problem. I guess this one will remain a mystery.....
