So if I was to just quit using FP, and try to maintain my site in Word, what folders do I keep and what ones are no longer nessesary?

Word is a word processing application and using it to maintain a HTML site is not going to work.

Don't give up just yet.

Have you done all those 'housecleaning' chores? Deleted .tmp files? Cleaned out cache? Cleaned out any useless stuff on your hard drive? Uninstalled any unused programs? Deleted unused or unwanted pictures, sounds, or movies? Done the de-frag?

How much available disk do you have?

If nothing else, a good housecleaning is good for your PC. But I'd bet it'll speed things up a bit...

Hope this is of some help to you.

I agree totally with Gil and Bill and try what Bill says before you give up on FP.

If you're still unsure or if you want to know some of the pitfalls with using word I would strongly recommmed reading this article.

http://www.netmechanic.com/news/vol4/beginner_no16.htm

5 mins reading this will definately pay off if you decide to go ahead and use Word.

Hope it helps,

Dave

Thanks for your help, I decided that I don't want to use word. I don't like the extra tags and such, left by word, and so it looks like the second best thing to a real editor. But FP 2000 just won't work on this old dog of a computer. 386 Mhz, & my hard drive is hardly anything 1.18G... I have so little software installed on it already. Just what I have to have and I can't get rid of anything more.

My real computer got wiped out by a virus a few months ago and I'm making do with one we gave the kids. No money to replace it right now so I guess I'm just going to have to make due.

I checked out Frontpage Express today. I'll have to copy and paste the whole 100+ site into new pages, and take out the extra tags, but in the long run I'll be closer to getting done by my deadline. Maybe if I can meet my deadline, I'll get the $$$ for a new system.

FP sure does spoil you. I forgot how much work it is to figure out the navigation in your head. I also miss having the whole site use a theme. Setting up the look is a pain when it's one page at a time.

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions, I tried all of them. It's too bad it is a matter of not having any hard drive space. Can't fix that right now.

A tired :-)

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Let me make a few suggestions to ease your hand-coding worries:

1) Use CSS. Either link to an external file or create a style sheet that you just copy and paste into the each page.
2) You may want to consider using frames. Frames have some major drawbacks, but it is great for compartmentalizing your code and make menuing simple.

I have a Cyrix II (366mhz) processor you can have if you want....

Hey Kita,

I have a few smaller hard drives around 2GB. If you know someone on your end that can put it in as a second drive you are more than welcome to it (after I blow the dust off of it ).

Later,

Brian
