You can use other ports if your DNS registrar allows forwarding to the port level. Not all do. If they do, you'd set your DNS entry up something like this: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080 and then in your site software have the web run on port 8080. Is that enough instruction? If you need more, can you be more specific as to your registrar and server software? IIRC, if you're using GoDaddy you can't do this. GoDaddy does not do port level forwarding.

Thanks for the reply, I am using XP with FP 2002, and Zoneedit for DNS Can you clarify? I tried forwarding through my router to 8080 and setting up XP as 8080 as well but lost connectivity to http://localhost.

Can you clarify? What part do you want to clarify? Do you have your web running on port 8080? Check by going to: http://localhost:8080 Without using any DNS forwarding, you need to put the :8080 after the URL for it to work. Can you get that far?

Who is your DNS registrar? Do they allow forwarding to the port level or just to the IP address?

zoneedit....not sure but can ask If not, you still may be able to do it with your router. In fact it probably is the preferred way. Does your router support NAT?

If you want to redirect at the router, you will need to have a router that supports NAT (Network Address Translation). Most do. I'm not familiar with that router so you'll need to find out if it does or not. If your router does not and zoneedit doesn't allow redirect to port, then I don't know what other options to suggest. A hosting service maybe? There aren't any other ways that I'm aware of to get around not using port 80. Is your ISP blocking 80 or are there other reasons you don't want to use 80?
