Shared Border Problem - 11/17/2005 11:02:29
I'm working on a client site (www.deejay-s.co.uk).

I've created a GIF image to display in the shared borders (top, left, right).

It shows perfectly in FP2002 but not on the published web.

The file is named "border.gif" and is stored in the /images folder.

Viewing the source for the page when viewed in IE6 shows three references to the file and I've checked that the file is on the server in the correct folder.

I've saved and closed all the pages and recalculated all the hyperlinks and my colleagues running the servers are not FrontPage experts so cannot assist.

Please can anyone explain this to me?

Many thanks in anticipation,

Martyn

Having a quick look at http://www.deejay-s.co.uk/_borders/top.htm, it shows
<body background="../../../../../../../images/border.gif">
which looks like it is going up way too much. You might change it to a virtual link & see if FP can handle that or maybe absolute

When I "view source" in Firefox I see about three links to a file called:

border.GIF

And when I try to view images/border.GIF I get an error. Whereas if I try images/border.gif it works.

Note that all file names are case sensitive, and it is highly recommended to stick to lower case to avoid problems.

I checked all four of my reference manuals on FP2002 including Microsoft's "FP Inside Out", which is too heavy to lift!

None tell me much so I've come back to the problem, removed the file reference for each border, published the site, replaced the file reference in the dislog bog, published again and now it works.

I don't know why - it must be a "feature".

Thanks for your help guys,
