J-man -> your opinion please (11/20/2005 20:31:30)

the company on the left is in number 1 (google) the company on the right is in 6th place, under same competitive term. What your suggestions just by only looking at these stats - of is this not enough info to your opinion? Thanks

Sorry I don't understand what you're asking.

Reflect -> RE: your opinion please (11/21/2005 11:24:31)

Me, I would have to take an in-depth look.

I would look at directory structures, page names, inner site linking of page to page and section to section, back links (who from, PR, sites maturity linking to your site, how the links are place ((inside of content, good anchor text, banner ad))), how content is structured, links inside of content, maturity of both sites, PPC ads.

These are just a few things I could think of off the top of my head.

Take care,

Brian

jaybee,

sry late night, sometimes i drabble
the keyword density stats depict the home pages of two sites under the most competitive home page term, the site on the left's home page vs the site on the right' homepage; Left in position1 the other in position 6, any thought as to why just by looking at the keyword density? or does density only merit when synergized with methodz asformentioned

thnx

Google ranks encompass all the stuff Brian listed above. It's not just one thing and apparently most SEs either ignore or put very little weight on keywords these days due to spamming in the past.

I find there is great weight in key words especially if they possess font characteristics. or maybe i'm just getting to old...

Reflect to do that on ones own is simple, tools for competitors?

You could use a site ripper and download the competitors site to your hard drive (If I follow your question). This will give you a nice picture for the above. On links just do links:www.competitor.com to see who is linking to them. Then go to that site and look at the anchor text used in the link.

Maturity of site, whois would work great.

That should cover all things I rambled on about in my last post.

Take care,

Brian

Links. All you need is links. I keep saying this, but few on OF hear me.

In many cases you don't even need the keywords on the page you rank #1. I never worry about density and all that crap. I just build pages as fast as possible and link them into the site. Course, it's a lot easier to fiddle with on page stuff that find quality links.

edit: It's good to see you around J-Man.

Hey, that's a good article Womble,
