What are the dangers of using FP Extensions WITH scripting - 9/9/2001 20:43:00
I'm being told by many people that if I use scripting extensively (I have CGI, Perl, PHP) AND have FP Extensions installed on a Win2K server? (which I do, I have a YaBB as a bulletin board and will be adding some third party ASP code)Some of the FP extension features I find very useful, but also love these scripts I'm finding. It's becoming very confusing for me. I'm beginning to wonder if I should have went Unix and Dreamweaver all the way, but then I really kind of exploring a project that will next asp. (sigh) So what do people think. Can you safely run FP extensions and TRUELY get the best of both worlds in running scripts. Is is just a danger of how you submit the scripts (via Cute FTP coupled with FP?) Sorry to blab on, but this is a great forum and I know the best minds and experience is out there. Sincerely, Brad

Brad, I use Perl & PHP scripts on FP sites all the time w/ no problems. But, I do not use ASP nor host on a Windows server. As long as you do not "publish" your scripts or FTP the FP stuff you should be fine.------------------ Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our speciality "Indecision may or may not be my problem"

Thanks so much Gil,Might I test my understanding a bit more on what you mean by: "As long as you don't 'publish' your scripts"? I do understand the part of not FTPing the FP stuff.... Do you see a danger in also using asp? I'm thinking of using a product called ASP login that provides some security to asp pages on my site. Would that be a bad thing? Thanks, Brad

Always FTP scripts - never "publish" quote:

I really can't make a educated comment on ASP - never used it. I work on UNIX machines and have never considered a Windows server "stable" enough. But, that's only my opinion/experience. ------------------ Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our speciality "Indecision may or may not be my problem"
