Different Submit Questions - 11/26/2005 19:08:32
I looked through to see if someone posted this before, but couldn't find it. My first question is simple. I thought I set up my submit button correctly but it isn't working. Once I hit submit, I get taken to a "page not found" page & then when I go to my control panel on my website, it isn't showing up in the designated email. I have no idea what I am doing wrong.

Also, in a post a few pages back someone mentioned what is below in quotes, ... my question is, how do I disable the auto ID feature because I like that idea. Will it adversely affect anything I do in the future? Keeping in mind that I am new at this.

"FrontPage might auto-assign an ID to each instance...and in that case, the button won't work! Disable the auto ID feature in the cut and paste options on FP."
Thanks in advance

That was my secondary question, but it was every time you try to paste a paypal button it tries to slightly change the code???
Sorry, Thanks

I think this is referring to the check box in FP Tools >> Page Options >> General tab.

But that is called "Assign unique IDs to new tables", it has nothing to do with Submit buttons as far as I know.

If you post a URL for your form, people here could help you troubleshoot the submit problem.

FrontPage is like that - it thinks it knows better than you do how the code should be written, and sometimes it is outright wrong.

So it might help to isolate code like that in a webbot that will prevent FP from changing the code.

To do that, go to Insert >> Web Component >> Advanced Controls (scroll to bottom of list on LHS) and HTML should be highlighted in RH pane. Click finish and it will give you a box to place the html code in that you don't want FP to modify when you save.

That might fix your problem if it is being caused by FP changing the Paypal code when saving the page.

As Kitka said, FP has it's own brand of code it likes to think is better than anyone elses, and that "webbot-self" confirms it's probably that which is causing the problem. If you follow Kitka's instructions it should cure the problem.

Thanks, I will try that, but I am more concerned with getting the submit part to work. The submit part has nothing to do with Paypal. The submit is just so that I can get a copy of all the info I need before they pay. What am I doing wrong there?

Difficult to say without a url or the whole code you're using.

I don't use the code, I just do it the uneducated way (design mode)(haha). Can I have maybe a step by step procedure to see where I am going wrong?
Example:
1. Right Click
2. Do I click on Form Properties or Page Properties?
3. ?????
Thanks in advance

Well, first off, when having trouble with a published page, please provide a URL for the problem page. This helps to eliminate guess work on everyone's part and might result in a quicker solution for you.

Secondly, right click inside the form surround (the dashed or dotted lines)
Select form properties.

Thanks that helped a lot. I am sorry I haven't posted my URL yet. I don't want to post it until it is complete. I don't want to show it off until it is perfect. Thanks though.

If you're using FP and designing a website, you're using code, it's just that you don't see it when you're in design view. :)

If you're still having problems with it, if you go into 'split' view and highlight the form in design view, that will also highlight the html in the code view pane, then you can simply copy and paste into a post here - it'll be a section that starts with <form> and ends with </form>. On the posting form here there's a button at the top <% - click on that and paste the code for your form between the [code] tags, then we can see what might be causing the problem.

I went through the tutorial that was sent to me & did make slight changes that I don't think will matter, but as soon as I reupload I will see if it works. If it doesn't still, I will use that advice about the split feature, that is such a good idea! Thanks!
