Meaning of "Static Text Link" - 11/28/2005 12:46:06
In the Google guidelines for SE optimization it is suggested that all pages in a web site be linked to a "static text link". What does this mean? A navigation bar? Many thanks.

URL that you got that from?

Not sure but they may be eluding to a dynamic CGI-bin type program.

Take care,

Brian

I suspect that Jen is referring to the Google Webmaster Guidelines:

quote:

Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link.

http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html

In this instance, a "static" link is one which is normal text or html, that a bot can find and follow. Both these examples are static links and fine with the bots.

<a href="example.htm">This is a text link</a>

Linked image:
<a href="example.htm"><img src="button.gif" alt="Link to Example"></a>

Some people have all their site navigation done in Javascript, Java or Flash, which means the links are hidden from the bots, so they can't follow them.

Aahhhhhh, doorway pages. I got it. If the page exists in your site it should have a static link pointing to it.

Sorry, not enough caffeine as of late :).

Take care,

Brian

Yes, I meant the Google Guidelines. Sorry I didn't respond sooner. The Xmas rush has hit.
