GST / VAT question.... - 12/1/2005 5:17:46
I'm selling templates through my site now, but eventually I'd like to ahve an automated set-up whereas when someone pays for a template, the files are automatically emailed to them.

My question is though, as I'm supposed to add 10% onto my base price for goods sold within Australia and pay that to the government, once I've set up the automated thing, how would I ever know whether I'm selling my templates within Australia or overseas?

This situation must happen all the time, so does anyone know how it is usually dealt with?

Nicole

Yes but then I'd either need two different prices, wouldn't I?

If you have one price for simplicity you receive 10% less for an Australian Sale. Or put it another way you get 10% more for foreign sales. It just depends how you look at it.

I would say that your pricing strategy should be the same no matter where the sale is made.

It may be a good idea to get some advice from your tax authorities.

I don't know about this but will the payment receiving vehicle note the origin of payment on your statement?

in what scripting language you are calculating, a simple IF state
If country = "Australia" Then
price = price * .1
