Flash navigation..good or bad? - 9/20/2001 17:07:00
The site i work on is growing everyday...the main navigation at the top is constructed with javascript. I am trying to entice users to visit other pages that are not included in the main navigation (but accessible through text links at the very botton of every page). I've been playing around with Flash for awhile and found it would be alot easier to make a new larger menu using flash (javascript would be a pain). Ive heard mixed views about having Flash navigation though. Anybody have any views? Here is the site http://www.kleenkuip.com/

Hi,First thought that hit me is are you concerned with search engine spider bots spidering your site? If very concerened do not as the spider can not follow the flash hyperlinks. If no concern there then next thought is what if the surfer does not have flash? Will they get the plugin/download to view this? If those two things are OK with you then go ahead. I really like flash sites myself, currently learning Flash 5. Brian ------------------ Work hard, play fair, stay sane

I believe if you can get the same results with Javascript then go that route. But if you can't then use Flash. I personally love flash and think it is the coolest thing ever As long as the designer designed it with me (the 56k guy) in mind. Always remember the target audience. Good Luck, Eric

It really depend on what audience you are targetting. Flash dpeends on a plug-in, some user don't have it, some user don't bother to go forward if they need to install it, and some people can't stand the wait.On the other hand it can be very enticing, and can provide dynamic user interfaces. If your main audience is off a techie base then go ahead. But if you would like to reach the biggest possible audience you might want to reconsider. One more option (if you are really up to it) is to provide two versions of your site. ------------------ www.MichaelJosh.com Bringing Ideas to Life
