Creating a Web Developer Toolbox - 12/6/2005 18:52:22
I'm working on a Web Developer Toolbox for myself which I'm running on a test server, with the following features:

  • To Do List - Basic todo list.
  • Client List - Keep track of clients contact information, project details and book keeping.
  • Applications - Basically links to web based applications I've installed on my test server which I use with my clients and has a note feature to store information about each.
  • Macros - Downloadable macros for which ever applications I use (handy for when I'm working at a remote location or setting up a new work machine).
  • Resources - Create links and notes with descriptions by category.
  • Reports - Takes client information and generates different reports (i.e. list of domain experation, hosting experation, money made off hosting, design, etc).

Each of the above features allows for creation, editing and deletion of each element (you can edit a link, note, client, etc).

I want to be able to use this with clients so I can bring up their information when I'm with them to update their details, generate invoices, etc. It's also a great way to have my resources where ever I go.

It uses FrontPage ASP and is backended by an Access database so it's pretty specific to Front Page developers.

The only sections I'm having some trouble with is the Client section. I'm wondering if anyone has some suggestions on the type of data that should be collected and how they would implement it. Anyone who contributes I'll send a copy of the application when it's finished, if they want it.

Right now I have it stored in a password protected directory, but if I decide to make it public, I'll set up a demo. If it comes out really well, I might end up selling it, or giving it away and selling support, etc...
