I did say "may not be relevant today". It wasn't because the included file name seemed to be misspelt as well, but it may be relevant in the future.

don't forget while the image remains in the html document at 60px, it will determine the minimum height of the overall div and IE may, kindly, continue to add a tad of padding/margin to it.

It should not add the padding and margins as I have this globaly zeroed out

Which means it if is addign it, it is not obeying the global rule that I have set up [:@]

Well it's adding something at the moment, hence you get the gap on the right caused by the 60px image on the left + whatever IE is choosing to put in there html-wise. Putting that image in the background on the left part of the header, leaving both header sections at 60px and, even, foregoing the pleasure of nesting them in a headerwrap should work as well for you as it does for me.

I always try stuff out before suggesting it - honestly [&o]

Ok, I'm going to try the background image on the left, with the two in a container header.

I'm just mystified as to why it is doing this.

As you can see here, there ins't any type of line, it shows up fine. It has to do with the addition of the second nav under the first on the right. I would like to solve it, but just don't have time right now. I need to get this done. It is a bugger isn't it?

If you do a header container and add the background colour it should work, because as it stands the wrapper background colour#fff is showing through. I tried just changing the wrapper background to this 
DIV#wrapper {float: left; width: 774px; background-color: #b3c0eb}

and got this, the blue extends to the right column.

I did the total header thingie, it seems to be working, switched the navs about a bit, top on bottom etc...

Only thing is the top of the orange nav thing, he wanted London in bold, did that, but I think I did something in correctly with it. If you look at this in gecko browser you can see what I mean. Maybe an incorrect contectual or something?

I don't actually see what you mean because "London" - at the top of the orange list is in bold for me in IE6, Firefox1.0.6 and Opera8.02.

The error shown in the validation may account for some of the following visual inconsistencies, which is perhaps what you mean(?), but not all. I'll leave you to test when you have validated. I am attaching some piccies (taken without fixing that code error). Look at them with the following comments in mind:

Firefox: gives you an extra selectable area beneath the London heading. It also gives you some double borders on the list items.

Opera: gives you variable doubled borders on the list items as you change text size (up or down). It also emboldens the second list item when it has been hovered over and stays that way until the screen is refreshed.

IE: If you look very carefully, you will see a single pixel of the white background grinning through on the list items in all states. This can usually be fixed by making the line height a little larger than the default. Sometimes increasing the line-height can fix the variable double borders in Geckos. But don't be surprised if it doesn't work for every text size because the Geckos have a well know rounding error bug that can cause these visual phenomena.

That is what I get for thinking of all that needs doign today while trying to get that up!

Yes, you could be right, well at least at this time of the year when things need doing and being done.

I bake trays of cookies to give out and have yet to start the mixing. My yongest fears we won't get to it. I have to keep reassuring him that we will [;)]
