How can I make scrolling panorama images? - 12/7/2005 17:43:38
I already have some 360 degree panorama images.

Is there an easy way, using FrontPage and no special programming, to make them scroll like the one below which I found on somebody else's site.

I don't need all the features, zoom, etc. but scrolling would be good.

Peter,

FrontPage doesn't have a way of doing that, however I would assume there are paid extensions you can use with FrontPage that will make something like that easy. I doubt any of them would look at good as one using special software just designed for that.

Curious, what lens did you use to take your 360 images?

Once you spend the few minutes to make the scrolling image with special software, it shouldn't take too long at all to include that in a FrontPage created page. I am sure whoever you buy the software from will be able to show you how to do it yourself.

I wouldn't call it special programming... all you have to do is copy > paste and change the target image name.

There are tons of ways this is done. Search for "panorama javascript" or similar and Google will bring back several other options.

Keep in mind that about 10% of web surfers leave javascript turned off in their browsers.

Hi Bobby + Bobby:

Thanks for your helpful commments.

1. To make the panorama images I took about a dozen photos with my Canon EOS camera (not a digital camera) swinging round about 30 degrees between each. Then I scanned the prints and fitted them together using Photoshop. To see the result please go to the EdinPhoto home page:

http://www.edinphoto.org.uk

THEN enter into the Google Search Field on this page:

Camera Obscura Panorama

THEN click on the first link that is lised.

The image may be slow to load, and you'll have to use the scroll bar to scroll it horizintally.

2. If people will need to have Java enabled to get the automatic scrolling, I think it will be best for me not to do that, but to leave viewers to do the scrolling themselves manually.

- Acutally, the script Bobby linked to requires javascript, something just about everyone will have. His solution is a much better idea than to try and find a tool you can purchase. Basically all you do is insert the javascript code on your page, and change one thing. Everything else is done for you.
