Creating Passworded Page - 12/9/2005 22:36:09
hey everyone. i have just started using microsoft frontpage. so far i have no idea really how to use it. im just winging it. i have made a website that almost ready to lauch all i have left to do it password some pages. i have some files that i posted on my website for download but i dont want any1 else getting them besides my friends and me. how do i password the download so others cant download the file. just so u know i have pretty much no xp in html coding. i have created some ruff pages but they were pretty much just pictures and hyperlinks.

Not sure what platform you are on, Linux or Windows. If windows and you don't want to write it yourself you can go with the spookylogin, as I replied in another thread for you. If it's Linux you would need another product, just not sure what that would be. Or, you could venture out and write something yourself, with a learning curve of course. Depending on how in-depth you need it to be and your overall experience it might not be too difficult.

I haven't looked into passwords and users properly as yet but I believe, with FrontPage it is best done by editing the remote site (that you have just published) rather than your local one. Use the 'Open Remote Site In FrontPage' command. You will be able to edit your online site just as you do the local one stored on your PC. From here, select the 'Tools' Menu, select 'Server' then select 'Permissions'. You can add users and permisssions using a kind of wizard set up program but I think it may be all to do with SharePoint services. Due to my lack of general attention to the subject I can't tell you for sure. I am sure somebody else can. Hope this helps rather than hinders!!
