Working on a "live" web - 9/25/2001 16:47:00
I recently learned about working directly on a web ("live" I think you call it). Since changes need to be republished *back* to a hard drive, what is the advantage?

Thanks, Gail

Other than being able to slow the response of the server down and possible cause some functions to be unavailable? None that I can think of.

Working on the live server is EASY and FAST. Since I got broadband internet I exclusively save my files directly to the server.

I have never noticed a slow down in the server and certainly have not lost any functions. Although, I am not using any FP extensions, maybe that makes a difference?

Once a week or so i publish to my hard drive and then save everything to a CD.

Real Fast.

You won't see the slow down, Joe. But the people accessing your site while you are on it sure will.

I'm also guilty of working almost exclusively live on the server and publishing back every so often.

I guess it's that instant gratification thing.
